Aly Grelling  (Gieten - The Netherlands - 1958)

The versatile artist, Aly Grelling makes autonomous art within the discipline of painting, graphics and photography. The main theme running through her work is the human body and the primitive drive and powers of humankind.
The cross over between the different disciplines often results in new work, new ideas and new interpretations.
Alys work is recognisable by her distinctive use of colour and her fusion of techniques, through which her work often has an earthly appearance. During her travels abroad Aly has been inspired by the rawness of Nature in which you can so clearly see the “circle of life”. Nature shows how everything lives and how everything dies leaving an opening for new life to begin. Apart from drawing, painting, sculpting, graphics, photography and mural painting Aly also makes designs. This can be for herself or commissioned by a client. Through this work she recently created a larger than life blow-up stool called “the Tongue”. Other items she has designed are hand-grips and rope-holders for an international rubber boat manufacturer. Individual and creative pieces from this Dutch artist, currently living in the midst of the Dutch countryside are exhibited regularly. This site keeps you up-to date with these exhibitions.

Artist statement:

A  new life means there will be, in the end, an inevitable death.
What would a life be without this fact?
Without fear, without growth, without an inescapable ending?

Like at the end of a project you know that there has been a beginning somewhere.
It turns out that at every end;
A new idea, a new feeling, a new way will develop. Unavoidable.
